The fatigue is real, y'all.

You ever been so tired that you actually pause in between breaths because breathing takes effort?  That moment after all the air has escaped and you sit and think to yourself, "do I have the energy to inhale again?  It would be so much easier just to take a break and simply sit here, air-free."  Then you'd turn blue and the effort of not inhaling is worse than the effort of taking another breath.  So, finally, you inhale and it makes you even more tired.

Yeah, me neither.

You ever feel so worn out that when you blink, your eyelids stick together for just a millisecond?  In that millisecond, you think, "ah, this is nice.  A quick little nap.  Enough to recharge the batteries just a little.  Take the charge up from 1% to 2%."  Then, you open your eyes and the light is so blinding that you squint like Mr. Magoo.

I've never done that.

We have a dog who is the master of napping.  I envy him sometimes.  He will jump around, demand to be petted, beg for a treat.  Then, when the mood hits him, he will hop onto the ottoman in the great room, curl up into a ball and begin to snore.

Pro-level napping.

Sometimes he'll lay there with his eyes open, breathing heavily, chest rising and falling.  He's sleeping, face and paws twitching, but it looks like he's staring right at you.  It's as if he's so spent from a hard day in the mines that he didn't have time to close his eyes.

You ever been so tired that you fall asleep with your eyes open because closing them would be too much effort?  You simply sit there and think to yourself, "why the hell would I close my eyes at this point?  I'm here, sleep's met here on this spot, who cares if the rest of my body wants to join in."  Then your head tilts forward because you're asleep even though your eyes are still open and the tears start to fall down your cheek.  The damp wakes you and you're startled because, somehow, you're staring at your lap.

Nope, not me.

The benefit of giving yourself a side-hustle (I think we should retire that phrase in the same trash heap as man-cave and baby-mama) is that you get to grow yourself on your own terms outside of the everyday grind.  The downside is that it's still a grind.  And you get tired. And fatigue sets in.

So, taking small breaks is okay.  It makes your more productive.  Don't let fatigue rob your common sense.  I'll try my best to do the same.
