Architectural Inspiration week - Grotto II

This piece is INSANE!!

This is Digital Grotesque

Printed using additive techniques out of layers of sand, designed by algorithm.  Breathtaking results when algorithms design the overall structure and the details.

I love how the it's a different space depending on how the light hits it.  I love how it's a different space depending on where you're standing, what angle your head sits, your height, who you're with, what you had for breakfast that morning, who wronged you in your childhood.  The space alters itself in every situation.

Algorithms were responsible for the structure as a whole as well as the details.  It's such an amazing space.

By the way, I love the word algorithm.  It's such an improbable word.  I love the sound the -thm makes.  I like the word rhythm for similar reasons, except rhythm barely edges out algorithm because it has a sometimes as its only vowel.

Back on topic, I think this piece is, in many respects, the future of spatial design.  It evokes a sense of awe on both a macro- and micro- level.  I hope I get to see it in person someday.
